A vibro screening machine uses gyratory vibration to pass material over a mesh screen, separating it by size. Sterial Machinery's vibro screening machines are circular vibratory screens: the screen is round, the motion is three-dimensional, and the machine is enclosed – a format suited to powders and granules in process plants.

Screening, Sieving and Grading – What's the Difference?
The words overlap, but in practice:
- Screening / scalping removes a small amount of oversize or foreign matter from a mostly good material, at high throughput.
- Sieving passes material through a specified mesh to control the maximum particle size.
- Grading splits material into two or more defined size fractions, often with a multi-deck machine.
The same vibro screening machine can do all three; the screen mesh, deck count and motor weight setting change.
Why a Circular Vibratory Screen?
- Uses the whole screen: the gyratory motion spreads material across the full circular area.
- Compact: high screen area for the floor space, with low overall height.
- Enclosed: a lidded design keeps dust in and contaminants out.
- Quick screen changes: frames are clamped, so changing mesh takes minutes.
- Adjustable motion: the lead angle of the motor weights can be set for fast scalping or longer residence time.
Typical Screening Duties
| Duty | Example | Configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Raw material scalping | Removing lumps from bagged excipients or chemicals | Single deck, coarse mesh |
| Safety screening | Final check before packing spices or premixes | Single deck |
| De-dusting | Removing fines from granules | Single deck, fine mesh |
| Grading | Producing two sizes of fertilizer granule | Double deck |
| Solid–liquid separation | Removing oversize particles from paint or slurry | Single deck, adapted outlets |
Sizing a Vibro Screening Machine
Throughput depends on how much material must pass the screen, how fine the mesh is and how the material flows. Scalping duties – where most material passes freely – allow a smaller machine than fine sifting. Use the table below as a starting point.
| Model (screen dia.) | 12" | 20" | 24" | 30" | 36" | 48" | 60" | 72" |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Output (kg/hour)* | 25–100 | 50–200 | 50–250 | 75–300 | 100–400 | 125–500 | 150–1000 | 200–1500 |
| Charging height (mm) | 700 | 1000 | 1015 | 1210 | 1220 | 1200 | 1150 | 1190 |
| Discharge height (mm) | 480 | 610 | 610 | 750 | 700 | 660 | 640 | 640 |
| Total height (mm) | 720 | 1020 | 1035 | 1230 | 1240 | 1220 | 1170 | 1210 |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a vibro screening machine the same as a vibro sifter?
Yes, in our range they are the same machine. 'Screening' is often used for scalping and check-screening jobs, 'sifting' for finer separation.
What is a circular vibratory screen?
A round, gyratory screening machine where a vibro motor below the screen produces three-dimensional motion. Sterial's vibro sifters are this type.
Can it screen liquids?
Yes. Vibro sifters can be used for solid–liquid separation, such as removing oversize particles from paints or slurries. Discuss the liquid with us so outlets and screens can be suited to it.
